LWT switched the bland hearts for the videowall look, but the station's time was drawing to a close. Here, Glen Thompsett talks up Upstairs, Downstairs - After They Were Famous. (Right) Announcer Roger Tilling leads into the British Touring Car Championships.

Roger Tilling gives it some real welly with a full-on 'London Weekend Television' announcement. Announcers in the final weeks made a special effort to plug the full name as the on-air brand would soon disappear completely. (Right) A sad day as Trish Bertram makes her final announcement after 20 years with the station.

The Final Day - 28 October 2002

LWT pulled out the stops for its last day on-air giving its loyal viewers a real nostalgia-fest of presentation gems. This included a specially recorded start-up sequence broadcast at 5.30am on 28 October.

Thanks to Nick Harvey for this clip and the one below.

Glen Thompsett reminds LWT viewers that it is the station's last weekend (as an on-air brand).

Shown before The South Bank Show, this is Glen Thompsett's goodbye, voiced-over a re-created widescreen version of the 1979 LWT river ident. (The clip is exactly 34 seconds long - this is fitting as LWT broadcast for 34 years).
The final goodbye. A treat for viewers as they get to see behind the scenes in the control room and continuity booth. This is followed by a goodbye from announcers Glen and Trish and a compilation of LWT idents and presentation. Thanks to the efforts of everyone involved, LWT went out with well-deserved style.
